Allergy Friendly Chocolate Brownies: Milk-free, egg-free, gluten-free (and yummy)

No need for kids (and parents) with food allergies to miss out on these yummy treats. The first recipe is really great for making with kids as it’s quick to make, has no hot ingredients and has lots of mixing involved.

Be warned – non-allergic members of the household will like these just as much as the allergic ones do!

Egg-free, Milk-free brownies

  • 250g Plain flour
  • 350g Demerara sugar
  • 65g Cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 250ml Water
  • 250ml Vegetable or rapeseed oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/Gas Mark 4 (160° for fan ovens) and line a baking tin (around 25cm x 25cm) with baking parchment.
  2. Mix together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Add the water, vegetable oil and vanilla then mix until well blended.
  4. Pour the mixture into the lined baking tin and spread evenly
  5. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is no longer shiny.
  6. Allow to cool in the tin and cut into squares when still warm.

Gluten-free, Wheat-free Brownies

  • 100g Butter or hard margarine
  • 150g Dark Chocolate
  • 100g Rice flour (or gluten free flour)
  • 100g Chopped hazelnuts or walnuts (optional)
  • 200g Granulated sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/Gas Mark 4 (160° for fan ovens) and line a baking tin (around 25cm x 25cm) with baking parchment
  2. Gently melt together the butter and chocolate (either over a pan of hot water on the hob or in the microwave).
  3. In a separate bowl mix together the dry ingredients then add the eggs and mix to combine.
  4. Add the melted butter and chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients and stir in the nuts before pouring into the lined baking tin.
  5. Bake in the pre-heated oven until the top is firm to the touch and the surface is slightly flaky (35 to 40 minutes).
  6. Allow to cool in the tin and cut into squares when still warm.
